Abstract :
Aim: The aim of this study was to understand the eating behaviours of adolescents. A Qualitative study using a phenomenological design was conducted.Method: Thirteen female, twelve male in total 25 students recruited from the high school in Istanbul. Data were collected by focus group interviews. The inductive content analysis was used.Results: The factors affecting the eating behaviour of adolescents were determined as “balanced-unbalanced” double schema and “awareness” schema. The adolescents explained that, they selected the foods which are fatty and high;however they said that the foods which include protein were more useful for health. They mentioned about didn’t have a breakfast in the mornings as regularly and spent time as hungry because of exams; they conflict with parents because the parents insisted on healthy eating; the healthy was described as being approved and accepted by the society: the female are interested in their physical appearance and the male are interested in doing exercise.Conclusion: This study provides useful insights into the view about eating behaviours of adolescents. The findings of study provide the evidence it is thought that the adolescents might be guided in having healthy eating habits by providing collaboration between school, family and medical team.
