Development of The Nightingale Internship Program Evaluation Scale

Aim: In this study, it was aimed to develop a valid and reliable tool to evaluate the adequacy of clinical practicing, based on intern student nurses’ self-reports. Method: This methodological study was performed with the data were collected from 218 students in a state university in Istanbul, between the May 2014-January 2016. Data were collected by Personal Information Form, Nightingale Internship Program Evaluation Draft Scale and Clinical Practicing Environment Scale. IBM SPSS 21.00 and LISREL 8.51 programs were used for data analyzing. Content, construct and criterion validities and internal consistency reliability of the draft scale have been tested. Results: It was found that content validity indices were over 0.80, factor loads were over 0.45 of 39 items in draft scale, and these separated six factors that explain 75.24% of total variance. In Confirmatory Factor Analyzing, calculated goodness of fit indices were found as; χ2=321.24, df=696, RMSEA=0.001, GFI=0.89 and AGFI=0.87. It was found that internal consistency coeff icients varied between 0.72-0.94 in subscales and 0.95 in total scale. Conclusion: The Nightingale Internship Program Evaluation Scale which consists of 39 statements in six subscales and evaluates the adequacy of clinical practicing of student nurses based on their self-reports, is valid and reliable.
