Abstract :
Two Spectrophotometric methods are presented for the determination of chlorpromazine-HCI in pure and pharmaceutical preparation. The methods are based mainly on charge transfer complexation reaction of the drug as n-donor with either 2, 3- dichloro-5, 6-dicyano-p-benzoquinone (DDQ) or p-chloranilic acid (pCA) as 7t-accepter. The produced colored products are quantified spectrophotometrically at 450 nm and 550 nm in DDQ and p-CA methods respectively. Beer s Law is obeyed in a concentration range of (8 - 50 ~glml) for complex with DDQ and (10 - 70 ~g/ml) for complex with p-CA.The molar absorpitivities are found to be (4.796 5 x 10 3 and 1.0516 x 10 3 ) for DDQ and p-CA respectively. The proposed procedures were successfully utilized in the determination of the drug in pharmaceutical preparations. Statistical comparison of the results was performed with regard to accuracy and precision.
