Abstract
A numerical research is applied to discuss the dropping of pressure and characteristics of heat transfer at shell side of shell and tube heat exchanger. Two kinds of heat exchangers were used; first one was consisted of smooth tubes and another one from external finned tubes. A computational fluid dynamic (CFD) model was performed using the commercial software package fluent v19. The water passes through the tubes as a coolant fluid whereas the hot oil passing through shell side also at different mass flow rates. The Nu number and pressure drop are extracted in each model and disused. The results illustrated that using finned tubes lead to enhance heat transfer which the Nu number increased by (27%) while pressure drop increased by a quarter as compared with smooth tubes. The used Nano partial enhance the heat transfer at the shell side which the Nu at finned model raised up to (12.5%) with less pressure drop increment of 2% at maximum oil velocity.
