Abstract :
Turkish Language Teaching and Vocabulary Teaching as an important component of it have been making progress in terms of teacher training, teaching methods and both the selection and the contents of the sources especially with the effect of the data sets and analyses coming from Applied Linguistics and its subfields. The significant purpose of this study is to reveal a distribution and content analysis of the vocabulary teaching activities in 1st to 5th Level Turkish Workbooks. In the paper, vocabulary teaching in Primary Education was evaluated on the basis of the sources usedvia the analyses of the types of activities, their distribution and frequency with reference to the classes, the parts of speech and the concreteness /abstractness of the targeted vocabulary items. The results indicate that the activities in Turkish workbooks were neither regular nor systematic in terms of the types and the frequency of the exercises and the semantic properties of (+) / (-) abstract vocabulary items.
