Abstract :
IndividualandcombinedadditionofTiandCeontherecycledAl-Si-Cu-Fe-Mnalloywasconducted.Themicrostructuresandtensilepropertiesofthesefabricatedalloyswereinvestigated.InthecaseofTiorCewhichwasindividuallyadded,theaddedamountwasrangingfrom0.03wt.%to0.09wt.%.ThecombinedadditionofTiandCewassetattheratiosof1:1,1:3,and3:1withatotalamountof0.12wt.%.Microstructuresandphasesofthesealloyswereinvestigatedbyusinganopticalmicroscope,X-raydiffractiontesting,andSEMcoupledwithEDS.ThemorphologiesofthesealloyswerequantifiedbyanalyzingtheSDASvalue,lengthofsecondaryphases,andphases’distributionuniformity.Tensiletestingwascarriedoutforunderstandingthestrengtheneffectofthemodificationprocess.ResultsshowthattheadditionofCewasfavorabletothestrengthand%elongationbecausethecoarseneedle-likephaseandthepolyhedralphasewereeffectivelyrefined.TheirSDASvaluesanddistributionfactorwereremarkablydeclinedwiththeincreaseoftheCelevel.TheTiadditioncouldalsorefinethesecondaryphasesandSDASvalues.ButitseffectwasnotasprominentastheadditionofCe.CombinedadditionofTiandCeelementsattheratioof1:3resultedinthesamplesreachingmaximumcomprehensivetensileproperties.Inthiscase,theshortneedle-likephasewasuniformlydistributedinthemicrostructure.FewpolyhedralphasescouldbefoundintheAl-Si-Cu-Fe-Mnmatrix.Thestrengtheningofthesefabricatedmaterialswasduetothegrainrefinementforα-Alandmodificationforcoarsesecondaryphases.Inaddition,distributionuniformityofsecondaryphaseswasalsochangedbytheirmodificationeffects.
