Abstract :
Thepurposesofthisstudyweretoexamineoccupationaltherapists’perceivedconfidenceinthetreatmentandassessmentof
patientswhohavesustainedconcussion,todeterminewhatfactorsareassociatedwithhigherversuslowerlevelsofconfidence,
andtodetermineifconcussionwasatopiccoveredinoccupationaltherapycurricula.Thisstudyutilizedanelectronic
questionnairesentouttooccupationaltherapistsinallareasofpracticethroughsocialmedia,AOTAdiscussionforums,and
throughacontinuingeducationcompany.Resultsindicatethatthereisvariabilityinoccupationaltherapists’perceived
confidenceinevaluationandtreatmentforindividualswhohavesustainedconcussion.Chi-squareanalysisindicatesthathigher
levelsofperceivedconfidenceareassociatedwithmoreclinicalexperienceandgreateramountsofcontinuingeducationinthe
areaofconcussion.Occupationaltherapistsmaybenefitfromadditionaltrainingandeducationintheareaofconcussion.
