Abstract
Someclientswithcognitiveandcommunicativeimpairmentsafterabraininjuryareunabletoparticipateinthe
CanadianOccupationalPerformanceMeasure(COPM)withoutsupport.Thestudyoriginatesfromanassumptionthatsomeof
theseclientsareabletoparticipateindependentlyintheCOPMinterviewbyusingavisualmaterial.Aim.Theaimwasto
investigatetheclinicalutilityofCOPMsupportedbyTalkingMats(TM)forcommunity-basedclientswithcognitiveand
communicativeimpairments.Methods.Sixclients(51–60years)wereincluded.AftermatchingthevisualmaterialofTMto
COPM,theCOPMinterviewwasadministeredtwicewithanintervalof10days,onceusingTMandoncewithout.Interviews
werevideotapedandstudiedbysixevaluators.Results.ThemostobviousbenefitsofusingTMasasupportivetoolinthe
COPMinterviewwererelatedtothefirsttwostepsoftheCOPMinterview.Conclusion.UsingTMintheCOPMinterviewwith
clientswithcognitiveandcommunicativeimpairmentsafterabraininjuryisrecommendedasthebasisforgoalsetting.The
presentstudydemonstratesapossibilitytoincludeaCOPMinterviewtoclientswhohadnotbeenabletocompleteaCOPM
interviewandthusstartarehabilitationprocessinaclient-centeredmanner.
