Abstract :
Thepurposeofthisresearchwastostudythefacilitatorsandbarriersofassistivetechnology(AT)andthelearningenvironmentfor
childrenwithspecialneedsinspecialeducationschoolsinChiangMai,Thailand.Theinformantswereonehundredandsixteen
childrenwithspecialneeds,whostudiedinnurserytoGrade12,orwiththeircaregivers.Theinstrumentwasaquestionnaire
appliedbytheInternationalClassificationofFunctioning,DisabilityandHealth(ICF)andexaminedforcontentvaliditybyfive
specialists.TheresultsintermsofATshowedthatamajorityofchildrenwithphysicaldisabilityneededitformobilityanduse
ofschoolbuildingsandthosewithhearingdisabilityforcommunication.However,mostofthechildrendidnotneedtouseAT
forculture,recreation,orsports,whilemanyconsidereditasafacilitatorforeducation.Intermsofthelearningenvironment,
mostcharacteristicsofthephysicalenvironmentwerefacilitatorsforchildrenwithspecialneeds,aswerethoseofthesocial
environmentforallgroupsofsuchchildren.TheresultsofthisstudywereusefulinprovidinginformationforATanddesignof
alearningenvironmentrelatingtothevariedcharacteristicsofchildrenwithspecialneedsinspecialeducationschools
