Abstract :
Thepurposeofthisstudyistotreatdysphagiainanewbornbabywithcriduchatsyndromeusinganoralstimulationintervention
andtoexamineitseffects.Thesubjectofthisstudywasababyborn2weeksprematurely.Sincebirth,hisoxygensaturation(SaO2)
decreasedwhilefeeding,andhehaddifficultywithmouthfeeding.Thus,anNGfeedingtubewasinserted,anddysphagiatreatment
wasinitiatedonthesixthdayafterbirth.AbaselinephaseandaninterventionphasewereperformedusinganABdesign.Theoral
stimulationinterventionwasnotperformedinthebaselinephase,asonlynonnutritivesuckingtrainingusingarubberpacifierwas
usedduringthebaselinephase.Duringtheinterventionphase,nonnutritivesuckingtrainingandoralstimulationintervention
weresimultaneouslyconducted.Aftertheinterventionperiod,dailyoralmilkintakeandintakeperfeedingofthesubject
noticeablyincreased.Theoxygensaturationwhilefeedingroseover90%onaverage,andthebabydidnotpresentwithhypoxia.
Theoralstimulationinterventionprovidedpriortofeedingresultedinhighlypositiveeffects,includinginducednormal
developmentofthebaby,stimulationofhistransitionfromtheNGfeedingtubetobottlefeeding,increasedoxygensaturation,
andashortenedhospitalstay
