Abstract :
This article discusses sustainable fieldwork, which is systematically carriedout to examine the process of sustainable urbanisation through landuse changes and using two different scales as an example. Doing research through sustained fieldwork allows for a deeper understanding of the sustainable urbanisation process, and eventually enabling the researcher to conceptualise a local based methodology, model or theory. Continuous observations of landuse changes at two different scales will allow for a closer inspection of the impact of the changes, i.e whether it benefits the society or otherwise. This article also empasizes the need to conduct sustainable fieldwork to achieve quality data at the local level. Continuous observation will generate new information that can be used to refine available theories and eventually a “new” theory based on local observations can be formulated.
