THE IMAGE OF JOURNALIST IDENTITY IN THE NOVEL “HÜKÜM GECESİ” DURING THE ERA OF COMMITTE OF unio‎n an‎d PROGRESS

The Second Constitutional Monarchy Movement, for which the Committee of unio‎n and Progress acted as a catalyst, had a great effect on the Turkish political life. Thus, its being a military coup as well as a constitutional movement had a big impact on and made a big change in the way of doing politics, forms of press and social organisation. When the press of that era is inspected, it is seen that at first there used to be a free environment. However, it is seen, gradually, that the press was exposed to political and legal pressures and sanctions. In this respect, in this study, how the press regime was, how the journalist identity was presented, and how journalists placed themselves in the political conditions during the era of the Committee of unio‎n and Progress was discussed in the context of the Turkish novel. This study was designed in two stages. At the first stage of the study, political developments of the period and overall picture of the media were studied considering the key features and policy of Committee of unio‎n and Progress. At the second stage of the study, the novel Hüküm Gecesi by Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu was analyzed and it was seen that the findings reflected the characteristics of the press of the era.

İttihat ve Terakki Cemiyeti'nin katalizörlüğünü yaptığı II. Meşrutiyet hareketi, Türk siyasi hayatınıönemli ölçüde etkilemiştir. Nitekim gerek “askeri bir darbe” niteliği taşıması gerekse “anayasalbir hareket” olma özelliği, Türkiye'deki siyaset yapım tarzı, basın ve toplumsal örgütlenme biçim- leri gibi birçok alanda büyük bir etki ve değişim yaratmıştır. Bu noktada dönemin basınına bakıldığında, ilk zamanlarda özgür bir ortamın olduğu, ancak devam eden süreçte basının hem siyasi hem de hukuki anlamda baskılara ve yaptırımlara maruz kaldığı görülmektedir. Buradan hareketle bu çalışmada, İttihat ve Terakki Dönemi'nde basın rejiminin nasıl olduğu, gazeteci kimliğininnasıl bir görünüm sergilediği ve gazetecilerin dönemin siyasal koşulları içinde kendilerini nasıl konumlandırdıkları Türk romanı bağlamında ele alınmıştır. İki aşamalı olarak tasarlanan çalışmanın birinci aşamasında, dönemin siyasal gelişmeleri ve basının nasıl bir genel görünüm sergilediği, İttihat ve terakki Cemiyeti'nin temel özellikleri ve siyaseti dikkate alınarak irdelenmiştir. İkinci aşamasında ise Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu'nun “Hüküm Gecesi” adlı romanı incelenmiş ve elde edilen bulguların dönemin basınının karakteristik özelliklerini yansıttığı görülmüştür.
