Abstract :
Subgenus Phlebotomus Rondani and Berte consist of important vectors of cutaneous leishmaniasis. The disease and its dipterous vectors except P. duboscqi Neveu-Lemaire, 1906, are very much prevalent in southern Punjab, Sindh, NWFP, and Balochistan provinces. So far P. duboscqi has not been reported from Pakistan, however, its presence in Balochistan and Sindh can not be ruled out. Therefore, in view of important vectorial role of the subgenus Phlebotomus, diagnostic characters, relation with disease and geographical distribution of the four species of this subgenus are reviewed in the present paper. To help the zoologists and medical researchers for the correct identification of each species, key, differential characters and photographs of their important structures are also provided here.
