Abstract :
Insecticides are frequently used on rose flowers to control thrips in Pakistan. However limited information is available on the efficacy of different insecticides used against thrips on flowers or ornamental plants. Thrips are one of the most destructive insect pests which impair quality of rose flower. Eight different insecticides viz., [ Confidor (imidacloprid 20SL, 120ml), Deltamethrin (deltamethrin 2.5EC, 200ml), Acephate (acephate 75SP, 50g), Dimethoate (dimethoate 40EC, 400ml), Radiant (spintoram 120SC, 60ml) and Tracer (spinosad 240SC, 50ml)] were sprayed per 100 ml of water on Rose variety Wisky mac against thrips during the month of March, April and May under the field conditions of Horticultural Research Sub-Station, Multan. Two more insecticides [ Pirate (chlorfenapyr (99% Tech., 100ml) and Acetamiprid (acetamiprid 20SP, 120ml)] were added in schedule in the month of May. Maximum mortality (87 %) of thrips after 24 hours of application of the treatments was observed in the plots where Acetamiprid was applied, but after 72 h Pirate gave the best results (79% mortality). Pirate (88%) proved the best insecticide providing 88% mortality after 168 h of application of insecticides.
