Abstract :
Brucellosis, an infectious disease transmittedto humans principally through exposureto contaminated milk products, is endemicto the Middle East [1]. In Egypt, a crosssectionalstudy found that 11% of the populationhad serological evidence of infectionwith Brucella spp., while a study of acutefebrile illnesses found that 3% of all bacteraemiaswere caused by the organism [2,3].Brucella spp. has been reported as a causeof meningitis in many parts of the world. But, despite the frequent finding of Brucellabacteraemia, as far as we know the agent hasnot been previously reported in the medicalliterature as a cause of meningitis in Egypt. The current case thus represents the firstreport of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) culturepositiveBrucella meningitis in Egypt.
