Abstract :
The studies were conducted at Entomological Research Sub Station, Multan during 2012 and 2013.The efficacy of various conventional insecticides viz., Sanitox 40EC (dimethoate), Kangro 2.5EC (lambda cyhalothrin) and Curacron 500EC (profenophos), Acephate 75SP (acephate) were compared with the new chemistry insecticides viz., Confidor 70WG (imidacloprid), Confidor 20SL (imidacloprid), Pyramid 10SL (nitenpyram), Talent 480SC (thiacloprid), Mospilon 20SP (acetamiprid), Movento 240SC (spirotetramat), Polo 500SC (diafenthiuron), Pirate 360SC (chlorfenapyr) , Tracer 240SC (spinosad) and Radiant 120SC (spintoron) were tested for their efficacy against onion thrips on Phulkara onion. Maximum mortality of onion thrips was recorded in Curacron 500EC and Sanitox 40EC i.e. 82.30% and 80.67% after 24 hours of spray while minimum mortality was recorded in Polo 500SC i.e. 25.43%. The insecticides Acephate 75SP and Curacron 500EC exhibited maximum percent mortality i.e. 84.99% and 81.22% while Polo 500SC and Sanitox 40EC exhibited minimum percentage of mortality i.e. 29.67% and 21.76% after 72 hours of spray. Curacron 500EC and Acephate 75SP exhibited maximum percentage of mortality i.e. 74.29% and 66.56% while Polo 500SC exhibited minimum percent mortality i.e. 11.68% after 168 hours of spray. Curacron 500EC and Sanitox 40EC Acephate 75SP proved to be most effective against onion thrips to be used in any integrated management program.
