Abstract
Heating a mixture of [M(CO)6], M=Cr or Mo with 5-methylisatin (MeisatH) in THF resulted in triscomplexes with molecular formulas [M(MeisatH)3]. In presence of bipyridine, the two derivatives [Cr(CO)4(MeisatH)].bipy and [Mo(CO)4(MeisatH)].bipy were isolated. On the other hand, the reaction of [M3(CO)12], M = Ru or Os with MeisatH yielded the complexes [Ru(CO)3(MeisatH)] and [Os3(CO)10(MeisatH)]. All complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, infrared, mass and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The spectroscopic studies of the reported complexes revealed the proposed geometrical structures. The UV–Vis studies of the complexes in different solvents showed bands due to either metal-to-ligand or ligand-to-ligand charge transfer.
