Abstract :
The Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes have been synthesized by reacting cobaltous chloride hexahydrate, nickel chloride hexahydrate and cupric chloride dihydrate respectively with schiff base derived from thiocarbohydrazide and thiophene-2-aldehyde in ethanolic medium. The low molar conductance values observed for these complexes indicate that, they are non-electrolytes. They are soluble to a limited extent in DMF and DMSO. The elemental analyses of the complexes indicate that the complexes have 1:1 stoichiometry of the type M.L.Cl2.2H2O. Further, complexes have been characterized on the basis of spectral and thermogravimetric data. The synthesized hydrazone and its metal complexes were evaluated for their antibacterial and antifungal activities.
