Abstract
The miscibility behaviour of polybenzylmethacrylate (PBMA) blends with polyethylene oxide (PEO) at different compositions has been studied by inverse gas chromatography (IGC). The adequacy of two molecule probes (chloroform as solvent and heptane as non-solvent) has been tested in order to detect the glass-transition temperature, Tg. In all different diagrams of PBMA– PEO blends, it was observed, a disappearance of Tg at 57 °C specific for pure PBMA, this proves that these pairs of polymers were miscible. The polymer–polymer interaction parameters have been calculated in the molten state after the common Tg for the blend; their values being in good agreement with the observed phase behaviour. This observation is in accordance with those obtained by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) method. The miscibility also appears highlighted from the difference of ΔHd 1(23) blend obtained and calculated from the arithmetic average of each polymer.
