Collection Management Policy (CMP): A Framework to Achieve Library Goals

There exists plenty of literature discussing the rationale,uses and roles of a CMP in a library. Yet, a significant number of libraries in the developed world and a vast majority in Pakistan do not have such a document. It is a seriously neglected area in ocalibrarianship. Both a review of the literature and practice of libraries in the developed world demonstrate that the formulation of CMP has become a need rather than a norm. In light of the literature reviewed, this paper discusses both the status of CMP as framework to achieve library goals and developments in the theory and practice of CMP.
