Abstract
In this study, we focus on the Hamid Pasha’s Governorship of Van Province. The Pasha, who was appointed as the governor of Van province in 1883, has fulfilled important services in terms of economic, social, educational and cultural development of the province during his administration. It is known that he prepared two reports regarding this topic. In addition to this, he is also known to have taken some important steps to ensure the peace and security of the province. Especially, he tried to prevent separatist activities of the Armenian organizations. Armenians, who considered the pasha as a threat to their plans, which were realized secretly or openly, complained him to Ottoman Ministry of the Interior and tried to force him out of duty; and after failing in that plan, they finally poisoned and killed the governor.
