  • Abstract
    In this study, the assessment on trade concessions given with trade agreements made between European States in the time of Mahmud I who was one of the most important sultan of XVIII. Century was emphasized. The first of these agreements was made with Sweden in 1737. Then after the agreements made with two states in 1740 (France and the Kingdom of two Sicily), an agreement was signed between Austria and Archduke of Tuscany in 1747. The reasons for making the treaty stated in the study, their general characteristics and articles were evaluated. Through these evaluations, how these interstate trade relations reflected in these diplomatic relations and the results revealed in the interstate relations and the determination of development are planned. Indeed, as a result of the studies, it was seen that these agreements and trade concessions are the necessities of peaceful diplomacy and foreignpolicy implemented by the sultan. However, the evaluation of the agreements and their results show that Mahmud I was successful in his targets. Finally, these four agreements made during Mahmud I s reign showed that they bring positive results not only in his period, but also in later years in terms of political, economic and military.
