  • Abstract
    Objective: This study aims to state foreign students’ who study in Ondokuz Mayıs University anxiety situation about their social support and loneliness levels. Methods: The foreign students who studied between August 2015 and January 2016 in Ondokuz Mayıs University were the main focus of this study. According to improbable sampling method, there were 190 students from every faculty. The data was collected by using multi-dimensional perceived social support, loneliness and anxiety scale which also analyses the sociodemographic features with the surver questions. SPSS 16 program was used to evaluate the data. Descriptive statistics, Pearson chi-square, Sole factor Analysis of Variance, t-test and correlation was used to analyze the data. Results: %43,2 of the students were female, while %56,8 of them were male; and %90,5 of all the students were single. Students’ Perceived Social Support Scalewas determined as total point average (30.57±14.88), loneliness point average (50.77±6.89) and Constant anxiety point average (45.38±7.98). The scale of social support and loneliness of the students who stay at dormitory was higher than the other groups (P 0,005). Loneliness scale point average of the foreign students who dissatisfies the education was higher as it is found out (P 0,005). Social support and loneliness point was also higher for students who don’t have close friends (P 0,005). And it is confirmed that there is a positive, medium level and meaningful relationship between multi-dimensional perceived social support scale point average and UCLA Loneliness Scale and Constant Anxiety Scale point average.Conclusion: While social support points of foreign students go higher, their loneliness points go lower and their constant anxiety situation goes higher. It is important those students are supported by their friends and teachers.
