Abstract :
The course of ‘Contemporary Turkish and World History’ is prepared to provide information about improvements in Turkey and World history since 19th century till current time, to teach Turkey’s position in world’s 20th century history events. Also it aims to teach students to be sensitive and conscious about national history and culture, to develop students’ communication, intellectual and social skills. In this study we interviewed with history teachers about ‘Contemporary Turkish and World History’ course. Because it is believed that utilizing the experiences of teachers and probing the applicability of the course program will provide the effective learning of the course. The data is obtained from 20 (twenty) history teachers who thought the course. A semi-structured interview form was used in this study. Because of the selection principle of easy availability the teachers chosen by limited sample and the study is a qualitative study. Each teacher interview lasted in one hour on average and teacher responses recorded with audio recording device. It has been noted the interviewed history teachers are teaching the Contemporary Turkish and World History courses. At the end of the study we reached the conclusion that the course’s curriculum needs to be re- evaluated and the necessary changes should be made. Since there is no previous study in this subject, Contemporary Turkish and World History Course, it makes this study genuine and significant.
