The Views of the Students of the Faculty of Divinity on Preaching and Preachers: Ankara University Faculty of Divinity as a Case Study

This study discusses the results of a survey of preaching practicum which was conducted among senior students of the Faculty of Divinity of Ankara University. The aim of the survey is to seek the students’ knowledge and thoughts about preaching and preachership. To this end, students were asked about the processes between the preparation and presentation of a sermon with a view to investigating their approaches toward the profession of preaching. This study, moreover, examines the way in which their education in divinity program contributed to their inclination toward the profession of preaching and to making them competent in this profession. Also offered here is a discussion on the current state of the studies on sermon and preachership in public religious education. This study concludes with suggestions offered with regard to how the relationship between theological/divinity education and employment thereof should be.
