Abstract :
As it is the case with all religions, Islam also has a way of calling the faithful the worship, which is called the adhān. Reciting the adhān to invite the believers to the daily prayers performed five times a day has been practiced since the time of the Prophet Muhammad. And the Prophet himself advised and encouraged that the adhān be performed by those who have beautiful and strong voice. Muslims have thus attached much importance to it, thereby giving rise in time to a field of profession. In an effort to recite the adhān in a more effective way, science of music has also been employed by the muadhdhins, reciters of the adhān, and certain musical maqāms were used to that effect. This article offers some instructions towards improving the performance of the adhān through certain simple maqāms whose musical notes are provided at the end.
