The Spirit of the Tulip Era in Yahya Kemal’s Poems in Eski Şiirin Rüzgârıyle

Eski Şiirin Rüzgârıyle by Yahya Kemal Beyatlı consist of five poems which subject is period of Lale in Ottoman Era. Four poems which names are Bir Sâkî, Mahurdan Gazel, Şerefâbâd, Mükerrer Gazel written gazal’s style and a poetry which name is Sene 1140 written musammat style. All of these poems have Divan Poetry’s esthetics and historical subjects in Ottoman Era. Therefore their concepts are neo-classic style. Themes of period of Lale poems by Yahya Kemal have a perfection form in Divan poetry. And use language of Divan literature. Mazmuns, images and metaphors show characteristic of Divan poetry. For this reason we say that Yahya Kemal is a classic poet. But we couldn’t say these poems are divan poetry’s sample. Because Yahya Kemal’s image and metaphors in these poems change and turn to modern poetry.
