COMPOUND WORDS IN ORKHON SCRIPT

Compounding is one of the most used methods for word-formation in Turkish. Not only for Modern Turkish, it has also benefited from compounding method in the Old Turkic. For this reason, in this study, compound words in Orkhon Scriptsare examined. Compound words have been examined constructionally. It has been determined whether the components forming the associations are in the root, derived or compound structure. The compound words were tried to be classified at the same time. Accordingly, compound words are divided into three groups as suburdinative, attributive and coordinative. In addition, compound words have also been assessed for being endocentric or exocentric. Finally, compound words have been studied semantically. It has been determined how the components forming compound words undergo changes in terms of semantics.
