THE POETICS OF SPACE IN THE THEMATIC CONTEXT OF SERGÜZEŞT

The Turkish novel, which begins with translations, sets out a line ofdevelopment in an effort to accommodate all the concepts brought about byTanzimat as the founding period when the historical process is taken intoaccount. Since it is a theme that takes precedence, although it has manytechnical flaws, the authors have acted in such a way as to highlight thesocial message. Although it was originally set out from a romantic plane,they aimed to be educational, to guide, to warn and to criticize all setbacks.Sergüzeşt addresses the most serious theme that should be criticized in the social context. İt has dealt with the theme of bondage, previously committed on various planes, with a complete opposite attitude and complete rejection. It marked the destructive side of captivity in individual life. İt emphasized that the individual has eliminated all vital functions on the Ontic plane and this is repeated in all kinds of environments. It has been pointed out that this drama in Dilber s person happened in every environment depending on the space. This work is handled according to the thematic understanding that the Tanzimat novel takes precedence. The concepts that the text presents on the thematic level and the symbols that point and deepen these concepts are examined. The spaces and positions of the characters in this thematic plane have been identified, especially according to the spaces. The characters’ belonging or disconnection to space on the thematic plane has been evaluated.
