“MEMLEKET STORIES” IN TERMS OF LITERATURE SOCIOLOGY

Work of arts reflect a societie’s sense of aesthetics. Literature, which is considered among the fine arts such as painting, music, architecture and sculpture, also has an important place in community life and it has paved the way for sociology of literature with its being both a cultural value and a social institution. However, this method is still in need of development theoretically. The question of whether literature will be offered to the service of sociology as a material source or it wille valuate work of art with sociological opportunities is discussed. To reach the material which will enlighten a period, with this method, which is open to both areas, is the common expectancy. But, a literature researcher, also in the case of mention the literary value of the work. In literary reaserches, although literary work is the fundamental source, all kinds of sources and methods to ensure the correct comprehension and explication of the work, should be used. Text analysis is a method that is based on a comprehension and explication in literary researches and also can be supported by various criticism methods. In the introduction part of this study, a brief information about the sociology of literature was given and subsequently, Refik Halit Karay’s stories in his work titled “Memleket Hikayeleri (Hometown Stories)” (1919), has been tried to analyse in accordance with possibilities sociology of literature.
