Abstract
Thyroid disease in pregnancy com prises conditions that affect both themother and the fetus with potentialimportant consequences for childdevelopment. To inform the debate concerningthe importance of thyroid disorders inpregnancy and the role of screening for thyroidfunction, it should be noted that the gestationalincidence of hyperthyroidism is 0.20.3%,hypothyroidism 2.5% and thyroid antibody(mainly TPOAb) positivity around10%.2 Pregnancy has marked effects on thyroidphysiology and autoimmune thyroid diseasetends to ameliorate through gestationdue to general immunosuppression seen inpregnancy. The presence of thyroid antibodiesis associated with infertility and miscarriage.
