Abstract :
A study to estimate genotypic and phenotypic correlatio ns among physiological traits in maize wasconducted at Cereal Crops Research Institute (CCRI) Pirsabak, Nows hera, NWFP, Pakistan during 2006 and 2007.Six gen erations, PI, Pl. Flo F], BCI and BC], derived/rom 4 maize inbred lines were used. Days to flowering, leafarea, plant height and days to maturity were among the parameters investigated. Leaf area with days to flowering andmaturity indicated negative association of non-significant nature. Association ofsignificant magnitude between days tofl owering and plant height and that ofmaturity and plant height was observed. Flowering exhibited significant positiveassociation with maturity whereas a non-signific ant positive relationship between leaf area and plant height was seen. Results of this investigation suggested effective selection oflines with broader leaves. early fl owering and maturity forfodder purposes and those with late maturity and short stature for lodging resistance in a future hybrid breedingprogramme.
