A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF MODEL AND NON-MODEL FRUIT GROWERS IN RURAL AREAS OF KHYBER PUKHTHUNKHWA, PAKISTAN

The Present study was conducted in rural area of Khyber Pukhthun Khwa in during July 2008, with regard, to contrast the model and non-model fruit growers per tree production as well as problems faced to fruit growers in the study area. For the study, three districts i.e Peshawar, Charsadda and Nowshera were purposively selected. Statistics on different characteristic of production from 58 randomly selected respondents were collected. For investigation, descriptive statistics were used to compare the per tree production of the model and non-model fruit growers in rural area of KP. The conclusion of the study revealed that per tree production of the model fruit grower was found higher than the non-model fruits growers in the project area while the performance of Peshawar was found better than the rest of districts. Excluding in sweet oranges Nowshera performance was found better than the remaining districts. So experiment shows that the maximization project had maximized the production of the model fruit growers in the project area while still some bottlenecks, deficiencies and snags have been ignored. Consequently, for their control measures some drastic steps in future are necessary which will economically sound, technically feasible, and commercially profitable in the project area in the long run. Finally it is concluded that storage, irrigation, marketing, processing industries and price stability facilities etc are also the agents for boosting fruit industry in the study area.
