Abstract :
The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) is a legally binding instrument introduced by the United Nations to advocate the protection of children’s rights, to help meet their basic needs and to expand their opportunities to reach their full potential. It provides for the protection of civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights of all children. All nations which have ratified the agreement are obliged to deliver on children services accordingly to the human rights standards stipulated by the Convention. A self-report survey was conducted amongst children who are residing in Children’s homes all over Malaysia in an attempt to assess Malaysia’s committment to implementing the basic provisions of the CRC. The findings from a pilot study prove that most of the rights suggested by CRC are being implemented in the system, though narrow in its scope.
