  • Abstract
This article analyses the linkages between language (or to be more precise, dialect) and identity based on data collected from Narum community in Sarawak. It is found that most members of the community feel that they love their language, but in reality they done. This is revealed from their affective attitude. Their love to their language/dialect is just in an imaginary term. In fact, there are tendencies among the community members who have lost faith in their own language. There is a great difference between imaginary attitude from affective attitude. The linkages between language with identity are more signifi cance in affective attitude, rather than in imaginary attitude.
