Abstract :
Metaphor is an abstract concept and difficult to be viewed in the real world because it requires thorough research, and usually can only be understood well through life s experiences. This study tries to identify the types of metaphors’ conception, and analyzes them from the worldview of Malay mind. This study used cognitive semantic approach that involves two of the five types of idealized Cognitive Models (ICM), a metaphorical conception and scheme of the image which has been introduced by Lakoff. The discussions will be continued with analyzing the Malay mind found in the data from the mantras identified by the researcher. Based on the approach used, the study had found that there are three types of conceptual metaphors inherent in the Malay mantras contained in the book Ulit Mayang: Kumpulan Mantera Melayu. Structural conceptual metaphor was to be recorded as the highest number of usage that is found to be consistent with the typical Malay life experiences. Malay thoughts are resembled in the mantras indicate that Malay metaphors are paralleled with their life environment. In addition, four types of schemes have been identified so the mapping of abstract and concrete image or their feeling can be understood.
