ADAB AND MORAL OF LEADERSHIP IN HIKAYAT ISKANDAR ZULKARNAIN

This study discusses the character of the leaders in the Hikayat Iskandar Zulkarnain. Iskandar Zulkarnain name is mentioned in the Quran and Islamic history is the same as Alexander the Great in the West. The difference arises because the name was Raja Iskandar Zulkarnain vast empire beyond the control of the European continent to the Far East. He ruled the two kingdoms of East and West. This discussion will look at the personality owned by Raja Iskandar Zulkarnain to formation of the man of adab. Data of this study was to use text Hikayat Iskandar Zulkarnain, who was transliterated by Khalid M. Hussain (2013). This study applies a modelbased approach of adab by Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas (2001). Syed Muhammad Naquib Al-Attas had outlined four principles that should be part of the the formation of a man with adab (insan adabi). These four main principles would be the principles of knowledge, wisdom, justice and virtuous deeds. When all four principles came into being human would have a noble and good manners as depicted by the character Raja Iskandar Zulkarnain. This indicates that the morals and strong character are intertwined in shaping a great leader. Hikayat Iskandar Zulkarnain is can also be a guide for the public in a showing a good example of a relationship with God (hablumminallah) and human relations (hablumminannas). Based on this approach, the leadership qualities of Raja Iskandar Zulkarnain really can be explicate further. Morals that were owned by Raja Iskandar Zulkarnain had earned him the man of adab as the character revealed the ways in which how human wisdom could be great especially in pursuit of justice, virtues and good deeds for the betterment of humankind.
