LAWWAMAH NAFS IN THE NOVEL OF TAUTAN HATI

Nafs is the the pillar of morality that exists in human beings. A good morality will establish true self identity and strong faith in a society. This research was based on a novel written by Fatimah Syarha, Tautan Hati (2012) that identified, elaborated and also assessed the traits of nafs lawwamah from the novel. The research was conducted due to a moral decadence found common in current society. Lawwamah nafs is seen as the is prominently focused in the novel. One can shape and negate one’s traits, if self-controlled is practiced. The traits of the nafs found in the novel becomes the yardstick to measure and reflect the current society. It is hoped that by recognizing these traits people can improve their lives in a better way. The research was conducted qualitatively by using the reading materials related to the traits and elements of nafs found within the characters in the novel. This research limits to three predominant traits of nafs, namely, ujub, ghibah and also untruthfully. In conclusion, the characters in the novel have these traits mentioned earlier that have set them to be apart from Allah SWT; judging from the way the live and act freely in which would not reflect greatly of their iman (faith).
