Abstract :
Bedar Sukma Bisu (BSB) by Faisal Tehrani was published by Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka in 2007. BSB received the best novel award in Sayembara Mengarang Sempena Jubli Emas DBP. BSB portrays the livelihood of the Malay society from the pre Second World War era through the contemporary times in Malaysia. The author has creatively delivered issues on beliefs, faith and the involvement of the Malays in the corporate world through various techniques such as dialogue, monologue, flash back, flash forward, dream and symbol. The data for this research was gathered through a qualitative research design, with content analisis as its main research tool. The Pengkaedahan Melayu theory proposed by Hashim Awang was applied as analysis framework. This study optimized all the approaches that make the Pengkaedahan Melayu theory, namely the applied approach; morale and vision from the worldly and dakwah techniques; society and arts from the religious technique. This study finds that BSB mainly portrays reality of the Malay society’s livelihood that depends mostly on nature as their source of inspiration as well as economy. The Malay literature strongly emphasizes on character building and education through it’s content, and also gives equal importance to the aesthetic value of the literary work. The Malay society strongly upholds the Islamic teachings, and is also attached to beliefs and tradisional customs in regard to vision, sign and dreams. This study also proofs that the Pengkaedahan Melayu theory can be applied to testify the manifestation of Malay society’s livelihood in literary works.
