Abstract :
This study has been carried out in order to examine the hopelessness level of final year students of the department of physical education and sports in terms of employment matter. As data collecting medium, “Beck Hopelessness Scale” developed by Beck and his friends and “individual information form” developed by the researcher were used. The research group has been consisted of 257 females,381 males; 638 in total, who are final year students at the departments of physical education and sports of universities during 2008-2009 academic year. The hopelessness levels of students were compared in terms of their gender, deparments, teaching types, economic conditions and their thoughts about getting a job after graduation. It has been found that there is no statistically meaningful difference between the Beck hopelessness levels of the students participated in the study in terms of learning received departments, 1st- 2 nd teaching and males –female students (p 0,05). On the other hand,a statistically meaningful difference has been found between the students saying “I can get job after graduation” and the students saying “I can’t get a job after graduation ”(p 0.05) and it has been seen that Beck Hopelessness scores of the students who say “I can’t get a job after graduation” are higher. Beside, the Beck Hopelessness scores,received in terms of the situation in which the male and female students participated in the study can’t get a job after graduation , have been found to be higher than the Beck Hopelessness scores received in terms of the situation in which they can get a job after graduation.(p 0,05). To conclude,it is considered that the students participated in the study are worried about getting a job after graduation and this worry isn’t related to students’ taking first or evening education.
