Abstract :
The purpose of this study is to demonstrate how Adalet Ağaoğlu is inspired by the Western plays techniqually while writing her play Too Far—Too Close. This influence is not an imitation but it is important to bring a modern point of view to Turkish theatre. The characters in the play represent yesterday and tomorrow with their present ages. The scenery is described by less objects and difference in voice and behaviour that most activates spectator’s dream. Ağaoğlu, is techniqually inspired by expressionism, especially by the dream-play technique of August Strindberg’s Dream Play, Thornton Wilder’s Our Town, The Skin of Our Teeth and Pirandello’s “play in play technique” Six Characters in Search of an Author creating her own style.
