Abstract
This study aims to develop a scale to measure elementary science and mathematics teachers’ competence in measurement and evaluation methods and assess teachers’ proficiency levels on these methods. A survey with 272 teachers in Niğde city, town and village showed that the teachers competence on the methods formed four dimensions: (1) New, (2) Those assessing the conceptual abilities students, (3) Those intended for students, and (4) Traditional. When the competence in these factors were compared, it was also found that the teachers see themselves more adequate in the fourth, first, and third dimensions, but less adequate in the second dimension.
