Abstract :
In this research, 9th grade secondary school evatuated pupils’ geography coursebook hasbeen analysed and the teachers’ opinions about the coursebooks they teach have been determinedand interpreted the coursebooks are important materials which are teaching material for boththe teachers and the pupils so that education and teaching can be implemented systematicallystill coursebooks are the sole and the most important resource which is made use of in ourschools. This case makes it necessary that the coursebooks should be prepared more qualifiedly.Generally, when we examine the coursebooks, we can easily notice that there are importantdefifciencies. The ninth grade geography coursebook which is the subject of our research cannot meet the expectations of the teachers and is not qualified enough to meet the contemporarycoursebook criteria.While the importance of the cousebooks is dealt with educational and teaching point ofview in one part, the evaluation of teacher inquiry form consisting of eight sections in order toanalyse the nineth grade coursebook makes the major part of this study.As a result of the research, it can be said that there are some missing parts and the teachersare aware of them. More qualifiedly-prepared coursebooks will both increase the students’attention and affect the success in education positively in our country where coursebooks areregarded as an important teaching material tool. In the light of this findings, the geographyteachers make suggestions to coursebook writers, publiser’s , National Educational Ministryand those who will make research in this field.
