THE SOCIAL THEMATIC WAQFS AND MADRASAHS OF GAZIANTEP BETWEEN THE YEARS 1890 AND 1895

This study is constituted after examining of the records of waqf taking place within the judicial (şer’iyye) registers of Gaziantep, presents information about operations and progresses of the social thematic waqfs of Gaziantep between the years 1890 and 1895. As known, the waqfs (donation) for madrasahs providing the continuity and the actualization of education and training activities guaranteed unity and solidarity in the regions they were founded in every period. In this study, according to judicial registers, the documents related to the social thematic waqfs such as the waqfs for water and fountain made to have been benefited by people and the some activities such as distributing ashura and giving food for paupers will be evaluated and then it will be worked to present that the various dates connected to the operation of new and old waqfs founded in these areas.
