Asal-Usul Raja, Negeri dan Adat Istiadat Kesultanan Perak: Beberapa Variasi dalam Pengekalan dan Penyimpangan Sumber Tradisi

Traditional source plays an important role in strengthening the Malay sultanate that has laid its foundation in the Malay world for hundreds of years. From one point of view, traditional source can become comparative material to the historical and socio-cultural documents that are around. From another point of view, traditional source plays a part as a medium that introduces the history of the cultural nation that is rich with its value and belief system, in concordance with the way of thought of “the new cultural history” that is gaining place in society now. The traditional source that is referred to covers myriad forms of palace writings and also oral information with regards to Malay society of the past era. Many sources descend from myths, legends and oral literature of previous society that are difficult to proof whether they are correct or otherwise. It is believed that the story is true and it really happened in the past and is inherited orally from one generation to another. In the process a lot of other stories are added until there appears to be many versions that are different when compared with each other, this includes when the stories are produced in written form. One of the importance of the traditional source detected in the context of antecedents of the kings, country and manners and customs of the Perak sultanate that show a few variations in its continued existence and deviation. This research is based on two texts that have been born from the tradition that are Susunan Yang Pertama Adat Lembaga Orang- Orang Melayu di Dalam Negeri Perak Darul Ridzuan Daripada Zaman Purbakala and Salasilah Raja Perak Berhubungan Dengan Sayid-Sayid Chandaryang.
