Abstract :
The Waste Land is said to be one of the most representative works ofT S Eliot. The poet has tried to incorporate his critical cannons in his works. He has used a number of technical devices like Objective Correlative, symbols and imagery to portray the concept of Impersonality in his works especially in this poem. Through qualitative analysis, an attempt has been made to see as to what extent the poet has been successful to depict human feelings and emotions in an impersonal way. This startling poem presents a veritable labyrinth of meanings and messages for the contemporary chaotic times. Eliot s use of complex symbols and intricate imagery adds richness and variety to the texture of the poem. In this paper we have tried to expound qualitatively the concept of poetic impersonality with particular reference to The Waste Land. We have concluded that Eliot has to a considerable extent, successfully applied his theoretical concept in his poetic practice
