Abstract :
This research investigates effects of critical pedagogy on thedevelopment of critical thinking through teaching English essaywriting. The research also provides guideline to English LanguageTeachers to promote critical thinking in language learning and toteach language for reasoning. Quantitative and Qualitative data werecollected from 53 English Language Teachers and 34 Civil SuperiorServices (CSS) students to test the hypothesis (by incorporatingcritical thinking through English Essay Writing promotes reasoningskills among the students). Descriptive Statistics, Paired Sample t-testand graphic representation were executed for the analysis of data. Amarked difference (41.26 Mean Score) was measured in theperformance of English language teachers in the result of criticalthinking instructions into the composition of English Essay Writing. Asignificant difference was measured between Post-test I and II amongthe CSS students. The results signify that by incorporating criticalthinking in teaching English Essay Writing promotes reasoning skillsamong the subjects. The research suggests replacing the old cycle oftransmission pedagogy with critical thinking pedagogy in languageeducation – a vehicle through which the students gradually discoverthemselves in the process of language leaning, and develop thecognizance of appropriate language to reason.
