Traditionalsocial collectivities rooted in pre-modern economic conditions andformed by regional, religious, ethnic, linguistic, craft, and other localcustoms could not sustain the blow delivered by sustainedtechnological innovation; the division of labor, and mass migrationsfrom rural to urban areas.
