Abstract :
Objectives: The objective of this study was to determine the effects of right ventricular infarction on the clinical outcome of inferior wall myocardial infarction. Study Design: Cross Sectional Study. Place and Duration: The study was conducted at Department of Cardiology from June 2008 to March 2009. Materials and Methods: A total of 50 patients of inferior wall MI in association with right ventricular infarction who fulfilled the inclusion and exclusion criteria were enrolled after taking a written informed consent. Data were collected and recorded through a predesigned Proforms including demographic information, co-morbid diseases, and complete physical examination, CKMB values, ECG and Echo findings along with different complications observed in patients. Results: Out of 50 patients 36(72%) were male and 14 female 28%. The mean age was 56.84±12.23 with no significant gender difference. 46% patients had previous infarction and majority came late at hospital after initiation of pain as mean duration of chest pain was 23.50 ±31.82 hours. Patients with inferior MI who have RVMI are at substantially increased risk of major complications, including cardiogenic shock, ventricular arrhythmias, AV blocks and death. Conclusion: Early detection, along with hemodynamic support, rapid reperfusion therapy, and knowledge of the potential complications can help to improve the outcome of patients with RVI.
