Abstract :
In this study, the design and construction of a dual-hemispheres (spherical) irradiation facility for 5 Ci Am-Be isotopic neutron source is outlined. The facility has been assembled to perform qualitative–quantitative analysis of many materials using thermal, epithermal and fast neutrons outside the nuclear reactor premises. As a test of our irradiator, the neutron field trend for air-air configuration is studied using both gold and indium bare and cadmium covered foils, the emission spectrums of which were measured using HPGe detector. The optimum irradiator design and its performance were fully discussed.
